The Ministry of Education and the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation in the UAE have signed a memorandum of understanding regarding cooperation in adopting professional and national standards and qualifications related to private professions in the nuclear and radiological fields in the country.
The memorandum was signed by His Excellency Prof. Mohamed Yousif Baniyas, Higher Education Advisor and Director of the National Qualification Centre and the Commission for Academic Accreditation at the Ministry of Education, and on behalf of the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation, His Excellency Christer Viktorsson, Director General.
The memorandum aims to establish mechanisms for offering and accrediting "national professional qualifications" for various professions in the nuclear and radiological fields, and to cooperate in setting appropriate regulatory standards, including national standards for professionals in those fields.
According to the memorandum, cooperation will take place in the field of quality assurance for education, training and professional development in the nuclear and radiological fields, and contributing to developing competencies, assessing professional qualifications, job experiences, and training courses for the workforce in the nuclear and radiological field, in addition to strengthening vocational education and training, through the evaluation of vocational education and training institutions that wish to offer professional qualifications in this field in accordance with the standards of the National Qualification Centre and the requirements of the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation, as well as achieving strategic cooperation, exchanging data, and sharing information and statistics in areas of common interest, in a manner that serves and is consistent with the directions of the two parties within the scope of the memorandum.
Prof. Mohamed Yousif Baniyas confirmed that the memorandum comes within the framework of the Ministry's vision to strengthen its strategic partnerships with state institutions, whether in the public or private sectors, in an effort to achieve more harmony and establish participatory work that serves the educational process, by providing new learning paths in the field of vocational education. So, the return from will be to upgrade the plans and strategies of the Ministry to develop the best national professional qualifications in various professions and their regulatory standards. The memorandum involves a vital field, namely the nuclear and radiological field, in the country.
He added that the Ministry is keen to ensure the quality of national vocational standards and qualifications that meet the standards of the economic sectors and the requirements of the labor market, in addition to developing regulations, policies, standards and frameworks related to the technical and vocational education and training system in the country that meet national needs, in accordance with best international practices.
He explained that, according to the memorandum, the Ministry of Education would work to spread awareness of vocational and technical education and training in the nuclear and radiological fields in cooperation with the Authority and provide it with approved standards and guidelines for evaluating vocational education and training institutions.
Christer Viktorsson, Director General of FANR, said: "The National Qualification Centre at the Ministry of Education is an important partner. The agreement will play a vital role in building Emirati cadres in terms of acquiring the knowledge, experience and skills required to control the nuclear and radiological sectors in the UAE. A priority is to invest in capacity building among Emiratis for oversight in this sector to ensure the sustainability of control functions."
