The Ministry of Education is offering an educational pathway known as the Applied Stream, which is for Emirati students from grade 9 to grade 12. It has been designed for students whose interest and aptitudes are more suited to a vocational related programme that involves applied learning and competency-based assessment. This programme will equip Emirati students with vocational expertise as well as CoreLife Skills to meet the needs of employers in the emerging growth sectors of the United Arab Emirates economy. In addition, students will be provided with comprehensive careers' support as well as developing their employability skills.
Curriculum
The curriculum of the Applied Stream offers students a set of core and vocational subjects that provide them with a wide range of choices from which they will select a vocational path that matches their capabilities, skills and interests. Students continue to study the core subjects together with units related to their vocational choices. In Grade 9, students will undertake introductory skills of the different subjects. From grade 10, students will start their selected specialised skills that will continue until completion at the end of grade 12. On successful completion of the Applied Stream, students will achieve the EmCAL (Emirates Certificate of Applied Learning) that includes:
- Grade 12 Applied Stream Certificate
- Level 4 vocational qualification
