The year 2018 marks 100 years since the birth of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Founding Father of the UAE, who passed away in 2004. To commemorate this historic national occasion, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates has declared that 2018 will officially be known in the UAE as the Year of Zayed. The Year of Zayed will feature a series of events and initiatives in the UAE and internationally, designed to commemorate the memory of the late Sheikh Zayed, and showcase his impact and legacy, and promote the values that he displayed throughout his life in creative and interactive ways. Consistent with the values of the late Sheikh Zayed, it is intended that the Year of Zayed will involve people of all ages, nationalities, faiths and backgrounds in the UAE and internationally. The Year of Zayed is being coordinated by the Founder’s Office and Local Committees for the Year of Zayed established in each Emirate; all under the guidance of the Higher National Committee for the Year of Zayed.
To highlight the life of the late Sheikh Zayed, may his soul rest in peace, by creating stories inspired by the values of Zayed, may his soul rest in peace, strengthening national identity and learning about the history of the UAE, in cooperation with the National Archives.
The program seeks to activate the role of Zayed the Leader and highlight his leadership skills in order to activate sports activities and programs in schools through student leaderships. The students will be trained to organize and manage sports events in their schools and communities in an innovative manner.
The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul in peace, paid significant attention to sport and encouraged the UAE people to exercise. He had also been an athlete and a role model for generations. This role will be highlighted by the UAE school championships that will be held in the UAE.
The Year of Zayed 2018 national competitions for robotics, programming, and artificial intelligence come within the framework of the Ministry of Education's plan to develop and adopt national competitions according to international competitions standards. We aim to instill competitiveness and creative thinking among students and involve them in international competitions in robotics, programming, and artificial intelligence.
