“Greening Education Hub – (Erth), Legacy from the Land of Zayed”
Climate change is one of the most pressing priorities of the international community. The role of education in combating climate change is increasingly recognized, especially with the adoption of the Paris Agreement and Action for Climate Empowerment agenda at COPs, where the call for high-level international commitment is growing more than ever. Building on this, the Greening Education Partnership (GEP) was launched at the UN Transforming Education Summit in September 2022 as a global initiative to deliver strong, coordinated and comprehensive action. GEP will support countries to accelerate the transformation of education by integrating climate change education and climate action at its core. As an open and inclusive community of practice which, to date, includes over 700 organizations and 80 Member States, the GEP aims to ‘get every learner climate-ready’ through 4 pillars of action:
Greening Schools | Greening Curriculum | Greening Capacities | Greening Communities
Encouraged by the vision and leadership of the government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and COP28 Presidency, in placing education as a priority for COP28, the first historic Education Hub named:
“Greening Education Hub – (Erth), Legacy from the Land of Zayed”
"مركز التعليم الأخضر – (إرث)، من أرض زايد"
Hosted by the Ministry of Education in partnership with the Greening Education Partnership with its secretariat at UNESCO, it will be established in the green zone to highlight and advocate for education’s central role in tackling the climate emergency.

Greening Education Hub PILLARS
The Greening Education Partnership aims to deliver strong, coordinated, and comprehensive action that will prepare every learner to acquire the knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes to tackle climate change and promote sustainable development. As part of the GEP mission, MOE designed and started the roadmap to COP 28 by setting school policies, standards and action plans for greening, the schools, the curriculum, the capacities, and the community.

We aim to provide a framework for schools and universities to become more environmentally friendly, reducing their environmental impact while promoting sustainable practices among students and the wider community. By collaborating with organizations such as the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD), we strive to green 50% of our schools and universities (700 schools) before COP28.
More Details >> | The Ministry of Education has developed a comprehensive cross-curriculum framework for environmental sustainability, designed in collaboration with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the Ministry of Energy and the Infrastructure and Department of Energy in Abu Dhabi. This framework will be implemented in 100% of public and private schools, covering all 23 curriculums in the UAE. It equips students with knowledge, skills, and values across four domains: Energy, The Earth's Biosphere, Resource Consumption and Climate Action, and Innovation for Sustainability.
More Details >> | To ensure effective implementation of climate education, we are integrating climate education into pre-service and in-service teacher training programs. In collaboration with UNICEF, the Ministry of Education will train master trainers and principals from all schools, enabling them to guide teachers in implementing the cross-curricular and extra-curricular activities outlined in the guidelines. Our goal is to train 100% of teachers by 2030.
More Details >> | We recognize the importance of community engagement in promoting sustainability. Through our engagement model, we collaborate with specialized partners and agencies at the local, federal, and NGO levels. Schools can approach these partners based on their specific needs and context, fostering sustainable community involvement and promoting sustainability beyond the school premises. By collaborating with Abdulla Alghurair Foundation, we will deliver a climate awareness workshop to raise national awareness.
